As I lie in your arms
After being as close as two people can ever be
I realize why this feeling is called “The Afterglow”
It's only logical that when two bodies of fire meet
And explode
The whole area would glow for days

You came to me
Blinded by the heat of your own passion
And set my body afire
When I thought I couldn't endure any more heat
You touched me
With long, slim fingers of flame you caressed my soul
You burned into my body
And cried out as the flames consumed you
We seared the very air with our combined heat
We were both the fire and the inflamed

At a time when I really shouldn't have been thinking at all
A small part of my mind asked the question
'Where does all this heat come from?'
Is it from our bodies so tightly pressed together
Or our souls as they are melded in the raging inferno of our love?

As our bodies cool
And your arms hold me safe
I feel the warmth of your love all around me
And the heat of my love for you burns in my heart

Oh, how I love the afterglow!
